Canadian Park Officials Advise Guests: Don’t Let Moose Lick Your Car

The animals have started to learn that vehicles have salt on them. The salt is picked up from the road while driving. Moose love the taste of salt so it’s no surprise once they found out vehicles have road salt on them that they quickly learned they are an easy source for it. These kinds of interactions can become dangerous for the animal and people. Overtime during these fun little interactions it can cause them to lose their fear of cars and people and once that happens it can quickly lead to traffic accidents or dangerous encounters with moose.

Furthermore, there are concerns that the salt they are consuming off vehicles can have hazardous chemicals mixed in from the road, creating health concerns for the animals. Therefore, Canadian park officials are advising guests to not let moose lick their vehicles. As fun as it may be to see them up-close, its best that guests attempt to carefully continue driving when this activity starts taking place and not allow them to lick the salt off their vehicles.
